(15-04-13) Treating cancer-related fatigue naturally

by Sandeep Godiyal

(NaturalNews) Everyone can relate to fatigue but more so for cancer patients
who are subjected to different kinds of treatments that can stress the mind,
body and emotions. This is called cancer related fatigue or CRF. But with
proper diet, effort at exercise, massage therapy and other natural methods, CRF
can be successfully relieved.

Regular individuals with no grave conditions such as cancer go through
everyday stress causing activities. But stress and fatigue can be much more
stressful to an individual undergoing chemotherapy and other medications and
treatments to combat cancer. CRF is not a simple case of feeling tired and it
does not just occur during treatment. It can actually extend even after the
treatment is over.

What contributes to CRF?
There are actually different factors that can cause cancer related fatigue.
This includes the combination of therapies or when a patient undergoes more
than one kind of cancer therapy at the same time. It can also occur to patients
because of decreased nutrition which may be brought about as a result of
treatments. The combination of medication, pain and other conditions that a
cancer patient may be going through are also main contributors.

What natural methods can work against cancer related fatigue?
Because the cancer patient is already going through a great deal of stress
from medication and unnatural treatments, it will do less to treat CRF the same
way. However, balance can be restored within the mind, body and emotional
health of the patient using effective, natural methods including the following:

Improve nutrition
It has been found that many cancer patients who are going through different
kinds of treatments can suffer from malnutrition. And so the first step to
relieving CRF is to focus on a healthy diet. Consuming organic fruits and
vegetables can prove helpful. The first goal here is to restore lost nutrients
as a result of cancer medication and treatment. The body can be further
nourished to give it the boost it needs to handle the challenge presented by
cancer.

Promote exercise
A cancer patient may not have much strength for strenuous physical activities.
But limited exercises can prove to help treat fatigue. Simple activities such
as walking can promote better health.

Rest and massage therapy
A well rested cancer patient can become better able to face the difficulties
of treatment. A healthy and uninterrupted sleep can restore much needed energy.
With quality rest, a patient can also gain better control of his negative
emotions and keep them at bay.

In the same way, massage therapy can provide a relaxing effect. Such can also
help effectively fight off nausea and depression which cancer patients are
prone to.

Get into stress management
Overall stress management is called for. Other helpful methods include
meditation, yoga, reading or whatever gives the patient the relief he needs.
There are natural medicines that can also be explored for relieving CRF
including curcumin, herb boswellia, vitamins E and B3, amino acids and omega-3
fatty acids among others. The bottom line is no case is hopeless as relief can
be sought from various natural means.
