(03-11-06) Why do Restaurants Feel Like Home to so Many Obese Consumers?
More and more American families are choosing to eat out rather than eat in.
Many are finding that eating at restaurants saves time, and does not cost significantly more than eating at home.
Surveys have shown that restaurant patrons now tend to view restaurants as extensions of their own homes. More than half of the average household food budget will soon be spent on meals bought outside the home, twice as much as in 1955.
As a result, American restaurants will bring in above a half-trillion dollars in total sales this year, the first time this has ever happened.
Eating out is considered a major cause of obesity in America, according to the FDA.
