(12-01-09) Obesity levels 'doubled' in England
Obesity levels in England have almost doubled in 14 years, according to Government figures.
One in four (24%) men and women were obese in 2007 compared with 16% of women and 13% of men in 1993.
The report also showed that men and women greatly underestimated how much exercise they needed to do to keep healthy, while few knew the limit on how much alcohol they should be drinking each day.

Among men aged 35 to 44, 25% were obese compared with 14% in 1993 while 35% of those aged 45 to 54 were also obese compared with 17% in 1993.
But men aged 55 to 64 came out the fattest of all age groups, with 31% being obese compared with 21% in 1993.
Eight out of 10 (79%) of all men in this age group were either overweight or obese in 2007, compared with 71% in 1993.
The data for women showed similar patterns, with 10% of those aged 16 to 24 being obese in 2007 compared with 8% in 1993, as were 19% of those aged 25 to 34 compared with 13% in 1993.
