(06-03-09) Health improvements associated with Paleolithic diet
According to a study recently published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, eating a hunter-gatherer style diet reminiscent of our Paleolithic ancestors, might be the answer to improved blood pressure and metabolic function.
Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine compared the diets of healthy non-obese subjects who consumed a typical western diet for three days, followed by a boost of potassium and fiber for seven days, then finally a Paleolithic style diet including lean meats, fruits, vegetables and nuts for ten days.
Researchers compared outcomes including blood pressure,
lipid concentration, and insulin sensitivity following consumption of the two diets and found that the Paleolithic diet, showed significant improvements in circulatory function and carbohydrate and lipid metabolism.
