(04-10-10) Prevent Alzheimer's Disease with Natural Diet and Lifestyle Strategy

by John Phillip, citizen journalist

Can Alzheimer`s disease be prevented, or is there anything which can be done
to delay its inevitable progression? That was the question posed in a mock
court run by the National Institutes of Health which reviewed a variety of
factors including diet, exercise, mental health, social engagement, supplements
and drugs, and they arrived at the depressing conclusion that there was no
course of action which could prevent this disease. Alternative health advocates
understand that these results were preconceived by pharmaceutical and
governmental influence, as extensive research confirms that following a natural
lifestyle strategy dramatically lowers the risk of Alzheimer`s disease.

Alzheimer`s Disease Results From Metabolic Dysfunction
Alzheimer`s disease is a condition caused by decades of dietary abuse, wild
blood sugar spikes, insulin resistance and repeated exposure to environmental
and household toxins. Our food supply is impregnated with food additives and
flavor enhancing chemicals, many of which are known to be unsafe.

Medical researchers are now calling this affliction Type III diabetes as high
blood glucose levels are believed to precipitate the brain protein tangles
which are a hallmark sign of the disease. One key to Alzheimer`s disease
prevention is to control blood sugar swings through strict adherence to a
natural diet which eliminates all sugar, processed carbohydrates and foods
containing high fructose corn syrup.

Controlling Alzheimer`s Disease Risk with Natural Diet and Exercise
The food we eat has a powerful impact on our genes, positively or negatively
switching our genetic structure based on the micronutrient composition of our
diet. Excess calories from a high carbohydrate and sugar diet increase
triglycerides which are deposited in fat cells as we approach middle age. This
results in the epidemic explosion of overweight and obese individuals and
greatly increases the risk of developing Alzheimer`s disease.

The results of a study released by the Journal of the American Medical
Association found that Mediterranean style diets as well as regular exercise
were both independent factors which reduced the risk for Alzheimer`s disease.
This type of diet stresses plenty of fresh vegetables, leafy greens, fruits,
fish, nuts, seeds and monounsaturated olive oil, naturally lowering levels of
inflammation in the body and providing essential nutrients required for brain
health.

Making the Correct Lifestyle Changes to Prevent Alzheimer`s Disease
In addition to diet, our environment and lifestyle are much different than
even a generation past, providing the genetic blueprint for Alzheimer`s
disease. The vast majority of people get little or no regular physical activity
and are severely overweight, both leading to high blood pressure and poor
vascular health. Hypertension damages blood vessels which supply needed oxygen
and nutrients to the brain, resulting in vascular dementia, stroke and
Alzheimer`s disease.

Make a conscious effort to learn something new every day. Mental stimulation
is just as important for your brain as physical exercise is for your muscles.
Learning stimulates the connections between neurons, and helps build neuronal
links which store and retrieve memories. Challenge your mind with a crossword
puzzle, learn a new language or engage in any mental activity which is new to
you every day.

Alzheimer`s disease is among the most feared illnesses, which afflict our
modern society, as the condition remains a mystery to medical science. Natural
health practitioners understand that the disease is largely precipitated by the
dietary, environmental and lifestyle abuse we subject ourselves to over the
course of a lifetime. Alzheimer`s disease is not inevitable, and can be
prevented by eliminating processed foods, limiting exposure to environmental
and household toxins and following a natural Mediterranean style diet.
