(05-01-13) Exercise In Older Years Fights Brain Shrinkage
Engaging in regular physical activity in your older years is more helpful in fighting brain shrinkage and dementia than social activities says a new study out of the University of Edinburg Scotland. The study reported that people over age 70 who regularly walked, or engaged in other aerobic exercise, several times a week had much less brain shrinkage and other signs of brain aging than those who did not. The study followed 683 people for 3 years, detailing how much time they spent in social activities and physical exercise. Those who reported more time spent in physical exercise had much less brain shrinkage and symptoms of brain aging than those who spent more time in social activities. The researchers concluded that regular physical exercise not only helps your body stay physically fit but keeps your brain healthier, longer, as well.
