(17-01-13) Increased Flavonoids Reduces Risk Of Prostate Cancer
Healthy Answers Research Team
Flavonoids, a group of antioxidant-like compounds found in plant foods, has been shown to reduce the risk of aggressive prostate cancer. This study finding was presented at the 11th Annual AACR International Conference on Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research held recently in Anaheim, California. The researchers concluded that adding more plant-based foods and beverages into the diet from fruits, vegetables, tea, and nuts would lower the risk of prostate cancer. They felt it is one behavior that can be changed to have a beneficial impact on health.
The study found that men with the highest flavonoid intake had a 25% lower risk of aggressive prostate cancer as compared with those with the lowest flavonoid intake. No one group of flavonoids appeared to be more beneficial than another. Thus, they felt that a variety of these flavonoid sources was best. However, the top flavonoid types used by the participants in the group were oranges, tea, grapes, strawberries, onions and cooked greens.
